An independent gem laboratory in Yangon
The laboratory division of YGIL accepts stones from traders, jewellers, auction houses and private collectors for identification, treatment detection, grading, and origin opinion work.
Testing, grading, and origin opinions
Each report we issue is the result of a documented examination process. Stones are observed under standard gemological conditions, and our observations are recorded against established reference sets and references.
Where appropriate we offer origin opinions on corundum, spinel and other select gem species, based on microscopic and spectroscopic observation. Our reports are intended to support confident buying and selling, and to stand up to scrutiny.
Why clients trust YGIL reports
Independent
YGIL is not a buyer, seller or dealer of gemstones. We have no financial interest in the stones we test.
Documented
Every observation is recorded, and we are willing to walk clients through how we reached a conclusion.
Calibrated instruments
We use standard gemological instruments calibrated against reference materials.
Confidential
Client identity and stone details are held in confidence. Reports are released only to the named client or written designee.
What we can and cannot do
Gemstone testing relies on observation, comparison and — for some tests — instrumental measurement. Even with the best instruments, certain conclusions are impossible to reach with 100% certainty on every stone.
YGIL follows a policy of conservative reporting: where evidence is ambiguous, the report says so. The absence of a finding is also a finding.
